The Static-Dynamical Model
Techniques, Approaches, Concepts

For a start, two links that I’ll recommend are this and this. Both will respectively give you a quick grasp of the topic in diverse ways. The one is a plethora of free astrology software, and the other gives a sound basis for thought.

Radix (Birth Chart)

In Radix, there is no other best way to establish the Axes, an individual orientation, than with the birth hour – and minutes to be exact. In the Chart, East and West, North and South, up and down, stem from that. The details of analysis in astrology is based on the possibility to discern resulting charts with an axial variation per day of 360 ecliptical/zodiacal degrees per 24 hours. The Moon reflects 12-15 such degrees in the same time span.

If we do not have the time of day by which to erect a chart, there are several techniques that may ‘personalize’ a chart, the analysis – at least to some extent. The Solar Return (SR) without referential Axes is one example. Astrocartography may often give good guidance. We must distinguish strictly between slow and fast ecliptical/zodiacal ascension.

A sunrise chart is just that – but according to tradition we can also have a chart for a given time and place with a chosen (selected) symbol at the ASC, and that has much to do with the concept of Domification.

Any r.factor as ASC will yield some significatory interpretations justified through domifications – just like Derived houses do. Or, as is customary: hold Aries towards East when the birth hour is missing. (The Meridian chart variant does not contain inherent symbolic references in quite the same manner.)

Relevant here are the questions around induced births, be it by any means or reasons – even the date is in the mix. Evidently, this has implications for astrology.

Defined Chart (Mundane)

The very notion of ‘birth time’ is vague and unreliable. We have uncertainty even when the whole process is natural. Knowing exactly when conception happened would be great, but that’s normally not practicable. It is feasible in mundane astrology, though. By ‘defined’ is meant simply choosing a moment that gives analytical meaning.

Cycles, Conjunctions, Lunations, Eclipses
How important is a lunation in relation to natal charts?

Transiting Moon is an important cycle in many cultures and in the astrological tradition, and of course in all of nature, in all life. Eclipses result from lunations, and that’s a large topic by itself. The question is how this relates to charts, and that means most often whether the New or Full Moon transits vital factors or configurations in Radix. P.Moon is also a lunation, though it paces within the Secondary chart.

These are general answers. There will more about the Moon & Sun as this blog develops.

When lunation charts are referred to as such, meaning a stand-alone chart, we are on a collective level. We astrologers may have different approaches.

Ingresses

It is customary among many astrologers to utilize the Cardinal Sun Ingresses (including the old ‘rules’). Again, we must remember that what is the Spring Equinox in the northern hemisphere will be the Autumn Equinox in the South – and the Winter Solstice will be the Summer. But, there are also many astrologers that find this whole concept a construct with little vocational merit. As a general, good example: In the Brexit year 2019, the Aries Ingress for London and Oslo are almost identical – granted that there is a slight sign shift on the MC. Think about that.

This preliminary text will be expanded upon. Let me just state for now that I normally consider (Solar) Returns and Harmonics more important.

Secondary (Progressions, Directions, Transits)
Depends on (an exact) Radix.

In prognostic analysis (past and future) I first look at Dynamical Angular Primary Directions to Radix. My approach uses no other ‘mathematical’ key than what we see with our eyes in Nature. This could also be called Diurnal Axial Primary Directions. As stated elsewhere, there is some confusion around, and intermingling with, the concept of Primary and Directions, but it is very simple and practicable in the Static-Dynamical Model: The progressed axes are, together with the progressed ‘planets’, what constitutes the Secondary Chart as such – as a separate chart. As soon as the diurnal progressed axes are seen as having moved in relation to Radix, they are called Directions (r.Axis.d). The word ‘Primary’ relates to Radix as the source. All this will become very clear as you read examples here in the Cauldron. (Or you can start going deep into it at this site.)

Progressing the chart has become easy now that we have computers, and we can do it in an instant. I suspect that the many and diverse definitions of all kinds of ‘Directions’ stem from a past with much theory and speculation, and less practicality through applicable tools. This is not to say that I disregard the vast empirical and multifaceted astrological tradition, with genuine and valid points. Generally spoken though, with the term ‘Angular Primary Directions’ I consistently choose to dynamically mirror real time, simply by moving forwards in time with the astrology software – showing how we with our eyes see the ‘heavens’ (axes) move. Let us start with a simple approach is what I say.

The Secondary Chart is a separate chart, where the progressed axes and the planetary progressions are drawn in as one integrated whole – thus depicting a dynamical state as it is now. This is the old ‘one day for a year’ axiom. How we differentiate & combine Radix & Secondary is what I’m trying to describe in this whole Compendium.

An illustrating way to see the relationship is to regard Radix as a seed, a potential, and the Secondary Chart as the flowering plant – growth, stemming from the seed, the evolving entity.

The Angular (axial) Primary Directions will, if that is a good way to put it, be like the weather – including catastrophes, but also beneficial circumstances.

When a plant has flowered, there is no way back into its seed, but new seeds are forthcoming.

Without going into the celestial mechanics of it all, it must be understood that the ‘planets’ and axes are in two different referential frames, though we actually see them as one – that’s just what we see standing on Earth. The ‘Dynamical Angular Primary Directions’ is how the axes move in Radix (r.ASC.d & r.MC.d) and there triggering configurations by conjunction.

Transits are mainly seen in relation to Radix, whilst Secondary is more seen as a state – though P.Moon works in Radix much like T.Saturn does.

Configurations are continuously formed dynamically – as a state, or by ‘completing’ existing (radix) configurations. That is the Secondary Chart.

Transits (heavy) and P.Moon can activate aspect patterns – foremost to and in Radix. By conjunction is normally the most significant, even more if significatory.

Simplified one could see progressions as a process, and transits and r.P.Moon as temporal – all is still one whole.

A ReliefPoint is typically (60-120)-180.

Retrograde: It is illusory to just put ‘Rx’ in a static drawing. We have stations, applicative & separative aspects, and the rest. It is by moving the chart in versatile software that you easily see the dynamics – clearly showing changing aspect patterns, with furnished settings and colors by which to vary.

Moon: Not all software displays the phases correctly – with the glyph either waxing or waning.

The exact Axial degrees in the Secondary Chart may differ somewhat in my method from the values furnished by Astrodienst.

Let this suffice for now. If I have time and am able, I intend to keep on writing, building this blog, so I will surely describe more about these important points – they are the elements of astrology where the most of confusions abound.

Quadrants (Axes), Domification (Houses), Derived Wheels
The Fields of Activity and Experience

The concept of ‘Houses’ is among the least understood and often misused. The general meaning may be grasped, but not so much the technical underpinnings. My ‘system’ is the four Quadrants, with a gradual change of emphasis within each. Even that may not always be feasible at high latitudes.
Intermediate house division lines in some of the illustrations are only present due to lack of options in the services I use.

# Descriptive

In Mundane astrology we consider charts of nations when verified, and charts of large institutions, and to some extent influential public figures. Through all this we have the fundamental tools of ACG (Astrocartography, Astro-Locality). The discussion is ongoing whether Solar Ingresses are revealing, and which one of them may be operative. The Aries-Sun Ingress is important enough, as it immemorially is New Year, but there are ‘rules’ as to how long it will last before other Solar ingresses chime in. But wait! This is a trap many of us regularly fall into. How often do we and our literature remember that we historically are westernized (that’s what we call it), and that what we here do daily is seeing things from the North? Fewer people live in southern latitudes, and those who live where they are not ‘westernized’ have traditions of their own, from which we could learn a lot. I will let you ponder on this. It is not so easy to pinpoint where in the world any given Solar Ingress has its focus.
